Donald Warren is a professor of educational history and policy in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Indiana University where he served as the University (System) Dean of the School of Education for ten years. Warren has been president of the American Education Studies Association, the Council of Learned Societies in Education, and vice president of AERA, Division of History and Historiography. Warren is one of the founding directors of TEAC.

Barbara Cambridge is senior associate director, K-12, at the National Council of Teachers of English. From 1996-2005, she held various roles at the American Association for Higher Education, including director of the Assessment Forum, director of the Teaching Initiatives, and vice president for programs. She is currently co-leader of the Inter/National Coalition for Electronic Portfolio Research and consultant to the Carnegie Academy Campus Program for the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Cambridge is professor emerita of English at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

As the Educational Manager and supervisor, Smith provides leadership on the preparation and professional development of educational personnel in Michigan, leading efforts to ensure higher standards of preparation of Michigan teachers and stronger professional development. She has also served as education research coordinator for the Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) and Acting Supervisor of MEAP. Smith's background includes consulting with the Higher Education Management Services in MDE and teaching at Michigan State University.

Carole Ames is dean of the College of Education and a professor of educational psychology at Michigan State University. Previously, Ames served as department chair and professor of educational psychology at the University of Illinois and acting director of the Institute for Research on Human Development in the College of Applied Life Studies. Her research focuses on the effects of classroom structure, competition and teaching practices on children’s motivation to learn, and on school and family relationships and specific strategies for increasing parental involvement in children’s learning. Ames has a PhD from Purdue University.

For over twenty years, Larry Christman served as president of the Association of Independent College and Universities of Ohio. Prior to his service with AICUO, Christman was Deputy Director of the Ohio Department of Development, responsible for creating a structure for the development of a strategic plan for the state. Christman has lectured and served in various capacities in a number of Ohio universities and colleges and is currently a higher education executive search counsel for R.H. Perry & Associates. His PhD in Leadership in Higher Education is from The Union Institute.

For the past ten years, Sandra Cohen has served as Director of the Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia. She has worked on a number of advisory boards and national committees and been active in numerous state projects, committees, and professional organizations. Cohen co-authored two books on exceptional children and her articles widely published in the field. She joined the UVA faculty in 1975 and is currently a full professor in the Department of Special Education. Cohen’s PhD is in special education from Georgia State University.

A faculty member at The University of Texas at Austin since 1966, O. L. Davis, Jr., holds the Catherine Mae Parker Centennial Professorship in Curriculum and Instruction and teaches graduate courses and seminars in curriculum development, history, policy analysis, and curriculum studies. His current research focuses on contemporary U. S. curriculum policy, the school curricula in the United States and the United Kingdom during World War II, the work of Texas' State Agents for Negro Schools (1919-1950), Rosenwald Schools Constructed in Texas, and the Texas Curriculum Development Project (1933-37).  Davis also edits the Journal of Curriculum and Supervision. His PhD is from George Peabody College for Teachers.

Russell Edgerton, PhD

As Director of the Pew Forum on Undergraduate Learning, Russ Edgerton oversees the Forum's work as a generator of policy ideas, an incubator of new projects, and a convener for 40 Pew-supported higher education projects. Edgerton was the former director of The Pew Charitable Trusts' education program and served for 20 years as President of the American Association for Higher Education. Before that he was deputy director of FIPSE and staff assistant to HEW secretaries Finch and Richardson. Edgerton's PhD is in Public Law and Government from Columbia University.

Denise Gelberg, PhD

Denise Gelberg retired from teaching in 2006 and is currently a visiting fellow at Cornell University. She has taught grades K-3 in several New York school districts since 1974. During that time, she earned a PhD from Cornell University in industrial and labor relations and has served as chief labor negotiator, vice president, and treasurer of the Ithaca Teachers Association. She has several published articles to her credit as well as a book, The Business of Reforming American Schools, SUNY Press. Other research interests include the efficacy of different methods of teaching beginning reading.

Jillian Kinzie is Associate Director for the Center for Postsecondary Research and the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) Institute at Indiana University where she manages operations and various projects. Most recently she planned and implemented activities associated with the projects Documenting Effective Education Practices (DEEP) and Building Engagement and Attainment of Minority Students (BEAMS). Her research activities and scholarly presentations have spanned a variety of higher education issues. Kinzie’s PhD is in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Indiana University.

Harold Kolenbrander is Senior Consultant at Academic Search, Inc., an organization that recruits and vets potential candidates for academic positions, most of them presidencies of liberal arts colleges. From 1986-2000, Kolenbander served as president of Mount Union College (OH) during which the college doubled its enrollment and more than quintupled it endowment. He is on the board of the Council of Independent Colleges and has served as a commissioner and consultant-evaluator for the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Kolenbrander’s PhD is from the University of Iowa.

As Senior Associate at the Pew Forum on Undergraduate Learning, Kay McClenney develops and leads a variety of projects focused on improving the quality of undergraduate learning, with particular emphasis on public accountability for institutional performance. McClenney is also a Distinguished Senior Fellow at the Education Commission of the States and served as its Vice President from 1990-2000. She is president of Mc2 Education Consultants.

Elsa Nuñez, EdD

Elsa Nuñez is the newly elected President of Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, coming to that position from the University of Maine System where she was Chancellor for Academic Affairs. She has served as Chief Academic Officer for six schools of Lesley University and held similar positions at Wheelock College and CUNY. Her linguistic research interests have focused on minority populations; she has published and presented widely in this field. Nuñez has an EdD from Rutgers University.

New to High Point University, Barbara O’Neal is an associate professor in the Department of Educational Leadership. She is also the program coordinator of the Educational Leadership and Educational Administration program at High Point. Prior to this, O’Neal was project director and principal investigator for a five-year Title II grant that established the Teacher Quality Enhancement Partnership at South Carolina State University. Her PhD in education administration is from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, VA.

Andrea Pendrey most recently served as a university field supervision with the UCLA Teacher Education Program where she developed and maintained relationships with principals, guiding teachers, and school personnel and led the Novice Seminar. Prior to that, Pendrey taught grades one - three in bilingual classrooms at the Billy Mitchell and Will Rogers Elementary Schools in southern California. Her BA and MEd are from UCLA where Pendrey was a Dean’s Scholar in graduate school. She is currently on family leave.

Mari Pearlman, currently Senior Vice President of the Higher Education Division at the Educational Testing Service (ETS), has led ETS’s core business including relationships with clients and major brand management for College Board programs (SAT, AP, PSAT, CLEP), GRE, TOEFL, and Praxis. Earlier in her career at ETS, she was responsible for the relationship with the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and creation of the teacher professional development product line, the Pathwise ® Series. Pearlman has a MBA from Harvard Business School and PhD from Rutgers University.

Hester Kingsbury Sutton is a mathematics teacher at The Tatnall School in Wilmington, DE. Previously she taught mathematics at Brandywine High School, was lead teacher for the Mathematics' Principle Indicators for high schools in the Christina School District, and worked with the Math League. She is currently serving on the board of Delaware Teachers of Mathematics as the NCTM representative and membership chair. Sutton has a BA in Mathematics Education, a BS in Economics, and a Masters of Instruction from the University of Delaware.

Robert Yagelski, PhD

Robert Yagelski is Associate Professor of English Education in the Department of Educational Theory and Practice at the State University of New York at Albany. He teaches courses in composition theory and pedagogy, critical pedagogy, and qualitative research methods and helps prepare secondary school teachers. Yagelski is also co-director of the Capital District Writing Project, a site of the National Writing Project. His research focuses on understanding literacy as a social activity and writing as a technology. He earned his PhD in Rhetoric and Composition from the Ohio State University.

Allen Splete, PhD
Allen Splete served as the Council of Independent College's president from 1986 to 2000. Prior to that, he was president of Westminster College in Pennsylvania, coming to that position after twelve years as vice president for academic planning and special projects at St. Lawrence University. Splete has served many consultancies in higher education and been involved in numerous accreditation studies. He was a member of the CIC Task Force and Steering Committee that developed the conceptual framework for TEAC. Splete was named Chairman of the Board Emeritus at the June 2006 TEAC Board of Directors meeting.

Marilyn Guy,

In 1994, Marilyn Guy, then Assistant Dean for Faculty Life at Concordia, College, Moorehead, MN, was asked by the Council of Independent Colleges to become a formal consultant to assist in analyzing current accreditation issues. She went on to become a founding board member of TEAC. Guy is a past president of the American Council of Colleges of Teacher Education as well as serving on the board of AILACTE and on an advisory board of the American Association of Colleges. She is professor and chair of the Education Department at Concordia College. Guy was named Board Member Emeritus at the June 2006 TEAC Board of Directors meeting.

Keith Briscoe

Keith Briscoe's career in higher education included a nearly two decade presidency at Buena Vista University. While there he was active in national and state education circles, serving as a board member of both the Council of Independent Colleges and the American Council on Education. Briscoe also worked with a number of international educational organizations, including the College and University Partnership Program and Council for the Advancement of Small Colleges. He was a member of the CIC Task Force and Steering Committee that developed the conceptual framework for TEAC.
